The weird thing is this seems to be a trope? We have this movie, and then in The Christmas Mail review on Drew Gooden’s channel, Santa’s daughter speaks what I can assume to be Cantonese, but knowing the budget on these movies and how much they care about being accurate, probably not.
This movie: progressive enough that “Chinese” isn’t technically a language and that it’s (mostly) comprised of Mandarin and Cantonese
Also this movie: racist enough to make a stretch of Cantonese sound like a racist Chinese impression by Dana Carvey or Mike Meyers
When I was a kid I actually legit thought that the engerizer bunny was supposed to be the easter Bunny so I thought the Easter bunny was a pink bunny that wore sunglasses and he played the drum in his spare time. I'm dead serious.

I feel like the term “hookup” has a different connotation in early 2000s. I think it just meant like modern day version of “talking” or flirting tbh. I read an article that interviewed Britney Spears in like 2000. Right before she was dating Justin Timberlake. Something I didn’t learn until college was that the term “hook up” can mean just “get together” or connect in some romantic way (ie. make out).
I had a roommate that said something about “hooking up” with a guy the night prior but in my head I was like “I was with you all night and all y’all did was make out”. I believe I said to her “hooked up?” and looked confused, to which she replied “yeah we made out” one of our other roommates confirmed.
I think it’s weird and I don’t use it that way but a lot of teens do.
