You know you made it when you get to jam live w Jpj and jimmy page
I love it when Dave Grohl takes a chance and lets fans on stage to play, those two old guys were pretty good.
never heard of them, weren't they the back up band for the Muppets
BWAHAHHAHAHA!!!!
Best comment here! Hats off to you.
I know, it's not often when the guest fans are by far the two most talented artists on stage!
They seemed like they'd played music before. Did anyone ever find out who they were?
They are all still alive. Heart made Robert Plant cry at the Kennedy center honors.
Taylor Hawkins isn't.
Look how happy Taylor was!!?
That's how to remember him.
In his element with his mates.
Sending love to the band and his family
That choked me up man. Beautiful sentiment.
As a big Zep fan, this performance came right to mind when hearing about Taylor's death, him and Dave both going nuts getting to play with those legends.
@@KingAlanI same here. This and Rock and Roll. RIP
your absolutely correct my brother !
RIP Taylor you will be missed prayers for his friends and family's!🙏
I’m not a drummer... but I can imagine that looking through your kit to see that your partner in the rhythm section is John Paul Jones, is probably the ultimate dream for a rock drummer.
Oh,yeah
As a vocalist, looking back and seeing JPJ and Jimmy Page behind you, and knowing that people will be making comparisons to Robert Plant must be some kind of nightmare, but then having been brave enough to step out from behind Nirvana's kit and deal with all that "grunge Ringo" shit, Dave's one of the few that can deal with that.
Yup 💯
I bet. Lol. I'm a bassist and he is just amazing man.
i was literally thinking it the whole video. itd be my number one goal or dream to be able to jam with JPJ!
How can not get a volt thru your body hearing
Jimmy play his 59 Les Paul
The bass line in this song is one of my favorites of all time! I clicked so fast when I saw both John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page on the thumbnail. Amazing! Legends.
Was just about to comment the same, one of best base lines ever, it gels perfectly with Bonzo's drums!
Shame it’s a bit quiet!
Too bad the vocals suck tho
My all time favourite bass line as well. Clicked on this vid for that reason.
Agreed, that bass line is unforgettable
One of the best bass riff I ever heard. JPJ is a monster.
The best in history
JPJ is a rock GOD
JPJ is so awesome the Catholic Church named two popes after him.
Check out hid album "Zooma" if you never heard of it, it's incredible. Released in 1999 to little fanfare.
Can't believe how gently he caresses the string yet produces such an awesome vibe BTW that's the 2nd most gorgeous bass ever after Jack Bruce's at the reunion gig
Fantastic song. The bass line is brutal, thank you John Paul Jones, thank you Led Zeppelin.
Isn’t it just magic?! ❤️
I used to cover this on bass in a band, sooo fun to play
You don't want to deviate from JPJ's bass notes at all in covering this song, since they can't really be improved upon.
JPJ is too good for this world
Yes
his bassline is so solid and great!
Best Bassist ever!!!!!
he aged into a very good-looking silver fox :)
The most underrated guy in Zeppelin.
This is a great example of just how much John Paul Jones shaped the Zeppelin sound. His bass work is amazing.
I most agree Zen.
Jones is one of the finest musicians England has ever produced.
Exactly
In fact all members of Led Zep were amazing artists! Real legends!❤❤❤❤
The silent Giant. JpJ
i agree. people tend to overlook JPJ. he's an excellent musician, pretty reversed, and has a very large body of work. he was a session musician before zeppllin, like page. he can play multiple instruments and any style of music.
So you go to a Foo Fighters and then you get upgraded with two members from the greatest rock band of all time epic
Dave was so happy while he was jamming with GODS.
Dave is a God, JPJ and Jimmy are Titans
he enjoys screaming with them!
Dave is GOD on nowadays,he has His own room...
Dave's face melts at 3:00 with Pageys phrasing. Lotta passion from all four.
@markfundingsland yea, its extremely expensive to set everything up. Not to mention the bands money, venue money,etc...not like the old days for sure
Imagine paying for a Foo Fighters concert and having the privilege to listening to the 2 greatest guitar/bass legends in the world on top of it..........................
This concert would have been worth every penny with just the Foo's, it's now priceless and unforgettable with JPJ and JP.
Musicianship was good , singing was Sub par .
Can you imagine, oh its page and jones...
@@stevedigre6467 - I bet Dave is just on top of the world here................Love the smirk Him and Paige share, showing mutual respect for each other.
@humanactivated1017 Good enough to get the greatest guitarist, the greatest bassist to join on stage for a couple of the most iconic songs ever written! But i guess you can do better!
The whole gig was insane... we were up in the stands.
Even the DJ before, Supergrass and many more before the Foo's and Led Zep smashed it...
Such happy memories
That was a song you just didn't want to have end..................
Every time I hear someone trying to sing Zeppelin...it makes me appreciate Plant that much more...damn is voice was dynamic.
100% agree. I love Dave and the Foo Fighters, but the second he starts signing, all I want to hear is Robert Plant. There is nothing and no one else like him.
To be fair Taylor did a damn good job on Rock and Roll. Certainly the best vocals I've heard other than Plant.
Ahh man, between around 2000 when I was in 11th grade and say…2014 when I got married lol…me and my buddy had many, many magical acoustic jams. The ones that always drew a crowd and turned into a massive singalong…beach jams, house parties, all the 3 day camping trips or musical festivals….would play till the sun came up, and the only times it would come to an abrupt end was the second we would be in that zone, where the booze and/or substances were giving the invincibility vibes…hell we did fine with usual vocal cord shredders, GnR’s Patience, Blind Melon, Soundgardempleofthedog…and like 25 Alice In Chains songs…then someone would yell, PLAY SOME FUCKIN ZEPPELIN!!!! 😎😎😳😳🥵🥵😮💨😮💨😮💨…And like clock work, Party’s over
Anne Wilson of Heart has the pipe to sing Lead Zep songs. And Heart has been covering them since they started in Seattle.
If you listen to this song as a background while concentrating on something else, the thing that stays in your ears (and for much longer than the song itself) is the bassline. John Paul Jones is extraordinary
It’s insane his time is impeccable
His feel is impregnable
His style is impetuous
And this is why I haven't gotten the chance to play this nearly as often live as I would like to have even though I've sang it, often playing the guitar parts as well, but it's hard to find bass players that can hold down that groove like JPJ.
JPJ is a god. He did some of his finest work on zep 2. The bass line in the lemon song is my all time favorite bass line. It almost made me learn to play the bass but I suck at music.
JPJ is a master.
Ligit this is in my head all day every day
Jonesy is an unbelievable artist - and one of THE great bass players of all time.
Sadly, he was the quiet one in a band with three totally talented extroverts, so is often criminally overlooked.
Dave playing his hero’s music with his heroes . Wow, what a life he’s lived.
He forgot the lyrics 😂
@@rickygreviews4637 Overawed perhaps.
His true hero actually John Bonham. It's sad that he never met and playing with him.
It's good. I just wish he'd bite the bullet and get a teleprompter for the lyrics. He butchered Rush's lyrics to Tom Sawyer. I mean, to some of us, classic rock lyrics are downright SACRED.
He sang this terribly ... sorry but it had to be said ..
England, Oh England. Thank you for all those bands and their music.
@submalevolent grace That is based on trad folk music from Irish/Brittish isles. All goes in circles
Yeah, but we were just trying to copy African American artists. We got it wrong...but it turned out OK
@LionsAllday DETROIT Yes. That's what I said, isn't it?!
@LionsAllday DETROIT I know. Just think if their music had never crossed the pond. They would never have got the recognition they deserved.
@LionsAllday DETROIT I wasn't having ago back at you. I was only recognising the fact that Black music paved the way for the British invasion and thankfully brought more attention to these pioneers in their homeland. These guys were true geniuses. What they created will live on forever.
look at how happy taylor is, im not crying YOU ARE
Man, JPJ just makes this song, he drives the rhythm, provides the tone, texture and dynamics to the backing - all perfectly executed live. Much respect John🙌
Magnificent musician!
and, he NEVER tossed a tv out a hotel window.....talent and class! 🎶💙🎶
John Paul Jones is the youngest old guy in the business. JPJ forever!
Ken Surrency jpj is 2 years older then plant
He stayed away from the junk.
Kirk Hammett
Smart and clean living.
Boat Axe that’s not true. He’s said so himself
John Paul Jones - probably the most underrated musicians / composers of all time.
No bro he isn't underrated he's considered one of the greatest the guy plays piano and mandolin equally great too he was the highest in demand studio bassist before joining zep
Of course he is not underrated. Common hes one of the led zeppelin. Led zepprlin is the God of rock. Are you living under the rocks?
I think the point is that the other three guys in Led Zep got all the attention when JPJ was probably the best musician in the band.
The way he wants it....
I'm so tired of people claiming someone is "underrated" when it's clearly not the case , at all .
Simply the greatest bass line ever written
WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!
How Many More Times
I wrote that comment here also
The Real Me
you could have plugged a couple different singers into Robert Plant's spot, at least a dozen guitarists in Jimmy Page's spot - hell, there might even have been one or two fellas who could bang the skins well enough fill in for Bonzo. But you just simply don't have Led Zeppelin as we know them at all if you don't have John Paul Jones
JPJ is hell of a bassist, he doesn't miss a note
True, he does not. A consummate professional through and through
Absolutely love John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page!…Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band of all time♥️
Absolutely.
John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page are seriously rock gods. I adore them still, in my 60s and I want to grow old like them!
Me too!!!
Me too ♥
Absolutely. Watching them is GOLD.💋💋💋💋💋
Keep on rockin', Kirsten. I hope you've seen When The Levee Breaks JPJ and Playing For Change. I'm pretty sure you'll love it.
I am 61. This whole video is amazing but seeing Jimmy page and John Paul Jones was amazing and hearing Taylor and Dave, there's hope for True Rock and Roll .. although a light went out on March 25...😢 rest in percussion Taylor
This song is all about the bass line.
And the Drums!! My favorite Led Zeppelin song. I love the vocals (don't care about the lyrics). The studio recording has that amazing dance between Bonham's drums and that sick bass. I don't know what the time signatures are, but the drums seem to have a different one much of the time compared to the rest of the band. Bonham just has some kind of crazy groove going in this song. JPJ and Bonham are amazing in this song.
For example Let's s Maybe likeOI don't know how about The real me the who Hello
BEST BASELINE EVER!!!
If this is the baseline, then I guess the songs only get better from here. Oh wait, you meant BASS line. ;)
BASSline*
I never thought this would be one of the coolest things ive ever seen but its definitely one of the coolest things ive ever seen.
As much as I love both Dave and Taylor, I can't help but get chills listening to just Page and JPJ playing.
Absolutely.
Not enough can be said about your observation. They were definitely in their element.
I am just thinking of Grohl playing on stage with Page and JPJ…joy and goosebumps
Grohl doesn't matter , he is just a vessel pouring the real wine... it's all Jimmy and John Paul , don't make the mistake of thinking it is not.
Amazing stuff!
As good as this is, and it is great, it just makes you realise how bloody fantastic Zeppelin were in there hey day...

You aren't kidding there!
It was a pleasure seeing Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones enthusiasm again and Dave Ghrol singing his heart out for a song that is a classic Robert Plant, and he did it well. I was a senior in high school in 69 when I was lucky enough to watch them at their first time in the states. Still sends me.
OMG people forget how awesome John Paul
Jones is- goodness gracious- he's a beast!
JPJ also looks 20 years younger than he is.
I'm in my 60's. I grew up with LZ. I saw them live in 1977. JPJ played a twenty minute piano solo to No Quarter. All of us older folks that grew up with LZ know how great JPJ is. Fortunately there are more live videos being released of their earlier concerts. LZ is/was the greatest band ever. I would put the Who as a close second.
He is such a solid player, makes everything look so easy. Very under-rated musician. Except Page wanted him in his band way back in 1969.
He is a genius !
The two original session dudes jamming together again. Loved seeing JPJ just lean into the bass drum like he used to do with Bonham.
I noticed that too.
Good habits are hats to break they where always in sync. Damn shame
Page and Jone’s is already to much to handle and love…. Thanks Dave !
JPJ was the under rated secret weapon and best musician in Led Zeppelin. I say that as a 30+ yr hard-core fan.
Grohl agrees with you!!
Underrated secret weapon? What kind of remark is that? He’s the producer and creator of Led Zeppelin and created the greatest band in history and was the number one guitarist that ever lived and he was never underrated and anyone’s mind but yours 1:28
@@shivapejman8155 John Paul Jones.
When I clicked on this video I was not expecting it to have Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones as well. This is beautiful
How Amazing having the opportunity to see the ONLY ONE, JOHN PAUL JONES!!!!!👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👋👋👋👋👋🤟🎸
The best thing about Dave Grohl and all his collaborations is that the moment of how lucky he is to play with all these greats isn't lost on him....he gets it...he acts like it was one of us being there.
He IS one of us
Not just the greats but shows he's lucky to play with people like Kiss Guy and Nandi Bushell too. He loves rock and roll and wants everyone to enjoy it with him
Stewart Copeland said it best. Taylor and Dave made fanboying cool.
Nice to see John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page together again. The architects of Led Zeppelin
as a bass player watching JPJ play the bass line that made me pick a bass over a guitar in guitar center in this good of quality is unreal
Someone turn up the Bass please - JPJ deserves to be louder.
needs to be heard with a decent pair of head phones. Sounds better, but sound quality still lacking. It must be Wembley
So agree, JPJ bass lines are so, so good and at times, far more interesting then the guitar parts. Lemon Song being the prime example.
Always with headphones. You’ll hear it ok!
Funny, I can hear the bass better through my phone versus my computer.
i can hear the bass clearly with my pair of earphone (ath e40)
Man I miss Led Zeppelin
Same.. nothing like that Zep magic 🌟
we all do.
I was born in 68- the same year Led Zeppelin was! I was playing “In through the Out Door”, on my brothers stereo in 1982 and spent High School memorizing all the previous Led Zeppelin albums. I love “Mothership” but 33 songs is not enough to encompass all of the incredible songs! Going to California, Fool in the Rain, Thank You, the Ocean what else?
I’m here 2024 because I needed to see real musicians play real music using actual instruments. Talent at its finest.
Those two old fella play decent guitars
They should start a band or something
They must be dave's relatives or something like that, very nice of him to bring these guys for the show

Jimmy NEEDS to play live like this, he comes alive and lives his life on stage playing Zep songs. JPJ, that bass is just outstanding and makes this song. Would love to see them both do more of this for us true music fans. Robert can run his race as he sees fit but Jimmy needs this for his own well-being and.... well so do we to be honest.

Dave really hit Robert's vocals
At that moment some long lost
Fire in Page erupted rewatch it
How many years since they had
That type of momentum
Led Zeppelin Gods
that was well said and w/out any sparkles
Jimmy and JPJ play so well together, I really wish they'd just do something together more often
I love what happens at 3:00..... Dave and Jimmy having fun. And the best of John Paul Jones. One of my favorite videos!
I love how Page and Jones are always around the drummer. From Zep to now, they’re always near the drummer.
JPJ is master of near enough every musical instrument, pure under rated talent
He is rated,believe me!
This ladies & gentlemen is Rock & Roll
It’s so nice of Dave to keep letting fans live out their dream on stage
Cute
Underrated comment
And the old Icons.
You must be talking about Bryan Cranston on the bass 👍
yeah, nice of him to let two old chinese and british fans to get on stage and play with him
JPJ with my favourite all-time bass line. It's not the hardest, it just serves the song so flawlessly and causes the goosebumps
Spot on. It really does serve the song.
Fucking amazing…what an honor it must be to play along Jimmy Paige…just awesome
the G.O.A.T>!
look how happy jpj and jimmy were to finally be playing together again. everyone knows page and plant had an energy on stage. everyone knows jpj and bonham kept pace with each other to keep the rhythm of their music on point. but honestly, page and jpj on the guitar and bass together just made such an incredible sound.
I'm an old punk rocker but this sent a shiver down my spine...the hairs stand up on my arm. This is a legendary event that will never happen again...like when I saw halley's comet in the 80s. An event I will never experience again.
I love the fact that Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones let that youngster sing this epic Led Zeppelin song! I wonder if they gave him their autographs?
No doubt in my mind, the Foo Fighters are one of the few bands still carrying on the torch of Rock and Roll since the 1960's, '70's and 80's. And that's probably why the old guard's from Led Zeppelin came out to do this show live on stage. Rock and Roll is a rare commodity nowadays, as the Baby Boomers get older.
Probably has more to do with JPJ being in Dave’s other band “ Them straight Eagles” or whatever there called.
Them Crooked Vultures
Perfect comment! Agree!
Also, Dave and John Paul are/were Crooked Vultures. ☺💙🎶
That bass line is unforgettable .. everything aside JPJ is astonishing …
That little smile that Dave & Jimmy share at 1:45 - beautiful.
That bass is magical. JPJ has a hauntingly beautiful soul. Goosebumps of jam session.
Now I only need to see JPJ play the "Lemon Song" and I can go in peace!
So grateful this popped up in my feed. This song has been amazing since 1969 and this performance does it justice.

It's sad that Taylor is gone but seeing this performance makes me glad that he got the chance to play with these legends. You can see how happy he was.
Jimmy Page. When a vocalist really gets traction on the melody and flow of the dynamic, Jimmy Page plays like he's 25 yrs old again. He literally rocks the whole stadium. Grohl's vocal was spot on commendable...plus plus. Really good drums. Oh man what a band
I love the Foo Fighters but Dave can't do this song justice on the vocals, but his passion and energy makes up for any short comings. I think thats what makes Dave a great vocalist. His puts his heart and soul into every song.
I can't agree with you anymore about this, Dave is a pretty good FRONTMEN, but he's no ROBERT PLANT and it showed , long live ROBERT PLANT. PEACE BE WITH YOU MY FRIENDS. 🙏 😎😎😎✌✌✌🏴🏴🏴
@@richardyoung7415 Yeah, this is unlistenable.
@@tingdzinkochu yea, well it was probably cool live, just the vibe and energy. Plant has some big shows to fill and Dave is clearly not that type of singer. He did a good job for the situation and with his particular skill set. Cool to see paige and Jones together.
saying he doesn't do this song justice is not fair - robert plant is the gold standard for rock vocals - you don't have to match that.
It’s his own interpretation of the vocals. He’s not trying to mimic Robert Plant because obviously his voice is too different to try do that. He’s just putting his own metal spin on it. Although I’ll always like the original song better, I like this version. I think it works very well.
Forgot the words....smh
Really sublime to hear this sacred song again! That litling base, that frolicking guitar, just magic!
If the surviving members of Led Zeppelin are happy playing along side of him good on him. I loved the way that he smiled at Jimmy at various times. People who are so happy playing music.
2 absolute legends of their craft. Page and JPJ. As much as the intro is amazing to this song is the riff he plays for the chorus and the switch back to the nice clean intro that makes it. Then when he plays the solo and pauses so you can hear JPJ belt out the bass riff is just other worldly. I'm convinced if you want to get your band to ever make it to the big time just have Page and JPJ sit in for one night and let the adventure begin. Just amazing and good God do I miss Zeppelin.
